Wrong. Real wine people use our Corker to reseal the wine in between glasses after the wine has breathed even when the wine will be finished that night.

Letting a wine breathe is beneficial to a wine. In a Cabernet Sauvignon, breathing allows the tannins to soften and become less harsh, the alcohol heat to dissipate, and the rich fruit aromas and flavors of blackberry and cassis to come forward.

Sniffing and sipping the wine will let you know when the Corker should be put into the bottle to prevent the wonderful fruit aromas to follow the tannin and alcohol heat right out the neck of the bottle.

Breathing good, overbreathing bad. Use the Corker in between glasses and all six glasses of wine in a standard 750 ml bottle will taste their best instead of just the first glass.

I often have guests over for dinner and will open 3 or 4 bottles of the same wine to breathe hours before my guests are due while I am prepping dinner. I sniff and sip as I work in the kitchen. When the wine smells and tastes good, I use Corkers in each of the bottles so every glass from every bottle will be perfect for my guests at dinner. We just open, pour, and seal. If there is any unfinished wine, it is well sealed for my enjoyment on another night.

Gifts. Corkers make great hostess gifts, wedding gifts, house warming gifts, birthday gifts, year end holiday gifts. In any economy, people don't like giving or receiving frivolous gifts. Give your friends a gift they will love and use every day. That's especially appreciated in this economy. We often attach the Corker to a nice bottle to upgrade the gift, choosing a nice oil or vinegar for chefs, a Champagne for a wedding or anniversary gift, or wine for a hostess gift.

How is using the Corker better than just putting the old cork back in?

The regular cork that comes with the bottle is porous. It breathes standing up and leaks laying down. Porous corks absorb moisture, when removed from the bottle, bacteria grows inside the cork, and can contaminate beverages if reused. Regular corks are difficult to use, either swelling and getting stuck, or drying out and becoming brittle. Typically, regular corks not only leak in the refrigerator leaving a mess to clean up, but they break when attempting to remove them from the bottle.

The newer man-made synthetic corks you see these days are no better. A cork larger than the opening of the bottle is squeezed by a machine and inserted into the bottle where it expands and seals the bottle. When you remove the synthetic cork, it expands back to it's full original size, making it impossible to put back into the bottle. We've heard of people forced to use aluminum foil or saran wrap and a rubber band to reseal their wine. Ugh.

The Corker is tapered, so one size fits all bottles. The graduated cork is smaller toward the tip and becomes larger nearer the handle. You simply push gently until you feel resistance. It sits higher in a smaller opening and lower in a larger opening, one size fits all.

Other bottle stoppers found in gift shops taper regular, porous cork. Instead of using the same inferior cork that leaks and breaks, or the slick synthetic corks that blow out of carbonated beverages, we use only a non-porous grade of cork. Our Corkers do not leak, break, or transfer flavors bottle to bottle.

I don't drink wine, why do I need a Corker?

Your expensive and delicious oils and vinegars in the kitchen come with either a porous cork or a twist top. Because you haven't effectively sealed your oils and vinegars, you have cooked with rancid olive and truffle oils, and musty balsamic and wine vinegars. People who don't drink any alcohol buy our Corkers and use them every day in all of their kitchen oils and vinegars.

Our customers rave to us that their two liter sodas stay bubbly longer when using our Corker. Corks and twist tops close, but do not reseal bottles.

I got this vacuum pump thing as a gift, it works great, so I don't need a Corker, right?

Oh my. We get asked this on a regular basis, and we really hate to answer it, because we feel bad telling people they have been ripped off. Let me say it clearly: the vacuum pumps do not work, in fact they ruin wine.

Consider this: sucking the air out of a bottle strips the wine of what makes wine special, delicious aromas and bouquet. You are actively ruining your own wine, ripping the yummy right out of the bottle, leaving a sadly deteriorated wine.

Wine Spectator tested the Vacu Vin in a university science lab and reported that what partial, at best, air pressure differential that is created is quickly lost. The device was not only ineffective, but in blind tastings it was judged to have ruined wines.

Wine Spectator is not alone finding the Vacu Vin lacking; Consumer Reports, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and the University of California, Davis School of Enology and Viticulture concur that vacuum pump devices injure wine.

Test the vacuum pump at home. Open two bottles of the same wine, pour a glass from each, put the old cork back in one and use the vacuum pump on the other. The next day, the vacuum pumped wine will show ill effects: the subtle aromas of the wine are noticibly deteriorated. Putting the old cork back did as well, or better.

The second test is to fill an empty bottle half way with mini marshmallows, pump air out of the bottle until the marshmallows swell to fill the entire bottle, and leave overnight. The following day, you will find the marshmallows have shrunk demonstrating the device does not maintain a vacuum.

You wouldn't suck the air out of a bottle of Champagne, you would suck the liveliest bubbles out and be left with a dead bottle. Don't suck the aromas out of your unfinished wines or kitchen oils either.

Wine professionals rely on the Corker for short term wine preservation; about a week or so. Use the Corker® paired with Private Preserve for long term wine preservation.

Bottles won't fit in my fridge standing up, can I lay the bottle on the side?

Yes. Regular cork, and other gift shop bottle stoppers, leak when you lay the bottle sideways, the Corker's non porous cork allows you to safely lay still, non carbonated, beverages on their side in the refrigerator without leaking.

Of course, where all other corks let the bottle breathe unchecked through gaping pores, and can't be used to store a bottle upright without ruining the contents, our Corker's non porous cork allows you to stand bottles upright. The Corker is both leakproof sideways (water tight) and upright (air tight).

When it comes to storing options, with the Corker, you are in charge of the cork instead of the other way around.

How does the Corker seal different bottles?

We measured all of your different bottles (did you hear us in your kitchen late last night?) and then tapered our Corker to fit most bottles. Can you find a Gatorade bottle opening too big or an antique apothecary bottle opening too small for our cork? Sure, but the Corker fits virtually everything you would care to reseal: from wines to sodas, big beer bottles to vinegars, oils to champagnes.

We've even heard that some folks use our Corker in their plastic water bottle in the communal office refrigerator to identify which bottle of water is theirs. The Corker is a smart way to stay healthy in cold and flu season. You don't want to accidentally drink from Sally Mouthsore's water bottle at work, do you?

Can I put a bottle sealed with the Corker in the refrigerator?

Yes, the Corker can safely be used in the refrigerator. Do not store bottles upright in the refrigerator door as they sometimes fall out. Store on any non-moving shelves.

What about bubblies?

Two liter soda, mineral water, tonic, sparkling wines and Champagnes, all carbonated beverages can be stored upright in the refrigerator or on ice.
Do not agitate. (don't shake the bottle, silly.)
Of course, observe all precautions when using with carbonated beverages.

Will my beverages keep longer?

Yes. We find that beverages keep about 4 times longer.

We find you get about 7 days with a red and 10 days with a white on average. Typically sodas and champagnes keep both their bubbles and flavors about 4 days. Oils and vinegars get closer to a year than the ordinary 3 months before deterioration.

For longer, nearly unlimited resealing storage, combine the Corker with Private Preserve for the ultimate in wine and kitchen oil and vinegar preservation. Inert gasses such as these are used by professionals and discriminating connoisseurs. These heavier than air inert gasses displace the oxygen and protect the wine.

We are on the road, doing highly respected juried art and craft festivals most weekends. Our show list is rarely up-to-date, as some shows are later with their acceptance notices than others. Show schedule.

Can you do custom Corkers?

Yes, we often take orders for custom Corkers. There is a 250 piece minimum order for custom Corkers featuring kiln fired enamel on copper art pieces.

We do custom logo Corkers for businesses to use as year end gifts and tradeshow incentives.

Wineries typically order our Corkers with their logo on the tops to send to distributers to get to bars and restaurants for cost effective wine by the glass programs; wineries also say thank you to their wine club members by sending a custom logo Corker yearly.

Finally, our customers know our Corkers work, and we are contacted many times each year to do custom Corkers for wedding favors when one of our customers
has a daughter become engaged.

While we not do one-of-a-kind custom images on our Corkers as the set up costs are prohibitive, we do custom logo Corkers in quantities of 250 and greater for business and winery use and for wedding favors.

How do I clean my Corker?

Simply wipe the Corker off with a damp cloth in between bottles. We can provide a display stand for the Corker, which not only shows off the decorative hand crafted art work, but is nicer and cleaner than just throwing the beautiful Corker in a junk drawer between uses.

Accidents happen. Unlike other more expensive bottle stoppers that break right away and that's that; owners of our Corker enjoy a lifetime replacement policy. When the Corker wears out after 5-7 years or more, of normal use, or if the Corker is accidentally broken through misuse, simply mail the art topped handle back to us, we dig out the remainder of the old cork, inset a brand new cork into your handle, and mail your Corker back fixed just as good as new.

We fix the Corker for free, we just ask $2 per Corker to be fixed to cover the cost of our return envelope and postage.
